๐ฆ Top Story
The Lions signed quarterback Josh Dobbs to a one-year contract on August 9 after head coach Dan Campbell revealed that Teddy Bridgewater has retired once more. The retirement created the need for a new veteran backup quarterback, and Detroit acted quickly in finding one. With training camp rolling into Week 2 and the preseason opener against Cincinnati just three days away, this move shores up the backup role and ensures continuity in the QB room.

๐ Season Watch
Theme A: Trenches Rebuild
With longtime left tackle Taylor Decker and center Graham Glasgow out, the Lions brought in former Panthers interior offensive lineman Cade Mays and rookie offensive tackle Blake Miller, with Mays filling the vacancy at center while Miller slides in at right tackle, allowing All-Pro OT Penei Sewell to shift to left tackle. Detroit was still a top five scoring offense and top five overall offense last season, but if the offensive line takes the kind of step forward the Lions think they can, this offense can be special considering the skill weapons they have. The trenches are the foundationโwatch how Mays, Miller, and the interior depth shake out during camp scrimmages and preseason work.
๐๏ธ Lions History & All-Time Greats
Barry Sanders: Still the Greatest
When he retired after the 1998 season, Sanders had amassed 15,269 yards rushing, second all-time to Chicago's Walter Payton. He rushed for 1,500 yards or more in four consecutive seasons, including a 2,053-yard year in 1997, when he was 29 years old. Sanders led Detroit to five playoff appearances and three 10-win seasons, including the franchise-best 12โ4 record in 1991. What makes Barry's story even more poignant is how it ended: he was one of the rare players to walk away on top of his game, retiring on the eve of training camp before the 1999 season. Twenty-seven years after that shocking announcement, his legacy remains unmatchedโnot just as a Lion, but as a symbol of understated excellence in a sport too often consumed by noise.
