🦁 Top Story
The Lions announced their FOX broadcast crew for the 2026 preseason will feature play-by-play announcer Jason Benetti, color analyst T.J. Lang, and sideline reporter Patti Cesarini, marking Benetti's second season in that role. Though low-profile, this signals continuity as the Lions enter an experimental preseason where coach Dan Campbell suggested he may be more willing to play starters in the preseason more than he has in the past, so quality broadcast coverage matters.

📊 Season Watch: Offensive Coordinator Impact
The Lions are entering the 2026 season with their third offensive coordinator in as many years, but quarterback Jared Goff is enthusiastic about the change to Drew Petzing. Petzing joins the Lions after spending three seasons as the Arizona Cardinals' offensive coordinator, where the Cardinals ranked second in the NFL in rushing average. Most importantly, Goff noted that "The best thing he's done so far is build something tailored to the guys we have," appreciating that Petzing blends his style with the personnel on the field. Early returns from OTAs suggest continuity with innovation—Petzing isn't forcing a system but rather tailoring schemes to leverage Goff's timing, St. Brown's route-running, and Gibbs' multi-dimensional touches. Watch how this offense looks in the Cincinnati game Thursday.
🗓️ Lions History & All-Time Greats
27 years ago this month, Barry Sanders created one of the most iconic moments in Lions history. Sanders ran for 2,053 rushing yards in 1997, becoming just the third person to gain more than 2,000 yards in a season, and was named the NFL Most Valuable Player. When he retired after the 1998 season, Sanders had amassed 15,269 yards rushing, second all-time to Chicago's Walter Payton. He was remarkably durable, playing in 153 games and only missing seven. Yet perhaps most poignantly, he walked away on top of his game, retiring on the eve of training camp before the 1999 season—needing only 1,500 more yards to break Payton's all-time record. He was elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2004.
