📊 Season Watch — Trenches Rebuild (Theme A)
Out are longtime left tackle Taylor Decker and center Graham Glasgow, and in are former Panthers interior offensive lineman Cade Mays and rookie offensive tackle Blake Miller. There's expected to be good competition for the starting left guard spot, with Mahogany as the favorite to begin camp, while Bartch brings veteran experience and Scruggs was acquired from Houston in the David Montgomery trade. The additions should equate to a net positive for the Lions' offensive line, which took a step back a season ago both in run-blocking and protecting veteran quarterback Jared Goff.
🦁 Lions History & All-Time Greats
Today marks a milestone year in Lions lore. Barry Sanders was just the third person in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards or more in a season, gaining 2,053 yards in 1997, marking the 25th anniversary of his accomplishment this season. When he retired after the 1998 season, Sanders had amassed 15,269 yards rushing, second all-time to Chicago's Walter Payton.
Lions All-Time Career Rushing Leaders:
- Barry Sanders — 15,269 yards
- Billy Sims — 5,106 yards
- Dexter Bussey — 5,105 yards
- Altie Taylor — 4,817 yards
- Mel Farr — 3,072 yards
- James Stewart — 2,890 yards
- Doak Walker — 2,646 yards
- Theo Riddick — 2,238 yards
- Kevin Jones — 2,067 yards
- Jahmyr Gibbs — ~2,300+ yards (active, total rising)
The Lions earned five playoff berths in his 10 seasons, something the likes of which great players like Calvin Johnson or Matthew Stafford didn't come close to accomplishing.
