After losing longtime left tackle Taylor Decker and center Graham Glasgow, the Lions are turning to Cade Mays at center, flanked by Christian Mahogany at left guard and Tate Ratledge at right guard. Ratledge, a second-year pro out of Georgia, earned a 73.5 run-blocking grade from Pro Football Focus in 2025. The additions represent a net positive for the Lions' offensive line, which took a step back a season ago both in run-blocking and protecting veteran quarterback Jared Goff.
🗓️ Lions History & All-Time Greats
On This Date: The 1997 Phenomenon
Twenty-nine years ago this season, Barry Sanders rushed for 2,053 yards in 1997, marking the 25th anniversary of his accomplishment in 2022. The 1988 Heisman Trophy winner was just the third person to gain more than 2,000 yards in a season. Sanders' Hall of Fame career features NFL MVP (1997), NFL Offensive Player of the Year (1994, 1997), First-team All-Pro selections (1989–1991, 1994, 1995, 1997), and Pro Bowl nominations in each of his 10 NFL seasons.
In September 2023, nearly three decades after his 1998 retirement, the Lions unveiled a statue of Sanders outside Ford Field, with Sanders sharing a heartfelt message to Lions fans showing appreciation for all their support over the years. Sanders became the first player in franchise history to receive the honor.
