📊 Season Watch: Trenches Rebuild
Out are longtime left tackle Taylor Decker and center Graham Glasgow, and in are former Panthers interior offensive lineman Cade Mays and rookie offensive tackle Blake Miller, with Miller sliding in at right tackle allowing All-Pro OT Penei Sewell to shift over to left tackle. Detroit signed Cade Mays to a three-year, $25 million deal, making him the centerpiece of the line rebuild. The additions should equate to a net positive for the Lions' offensive line, which took a step back a season ago both in run-blocking and protecting veteran quarterback Jared Goff. Detroit was still a top five scoring offense and top five overall offense last season, and if the offensive line takes the kind of step forward the Lions think they can, this offense can be special.
🗓️ Lions History & All-Time Greats
On This Date: Barry Sanders' Historic 1997 Season (29 Years Ago)
Two decades and nine years ago, Barry Sanders became the first 2,000-yard rusher in Lions history, accumulating 2,053 yards in 1997. Sanders went on to amass 15,269 career rushing yards, a Lions franchise record that still stands unchallenged as he suddenly retired in his prime in July 1999, leaving football at age 30 with his best years potentially ahead of him.
