📊 Season Watch — Theme A: Trenches Rebuild
The Detroit Lions enter 2026 with a completely new-look offensive line following the departure of Taylor Decker and Graham Glasgow. The front office's answer is a youth-forward rebuild: Cade Mays is expected to anchor center, flanked by Christian Mahogany at left guard and Tate Ratledge at right guard. Ratledge's 73.5 Pro Football Focus run-blocking grade ranked 12th among all NFL guards and second among rookie guards last season; over his last 12 games, he didn't allow a sack and gave up only four quarterback hits. First-round pick Blake Miller, much like his predecessor Sewell before him, is not your average rookie—he started 54 consecutive games at Clemson with school-record 3,778 career snaps. If the offensive line takes the kind of step forward the Lions think they can, this offense can be special considering the skill weapons they have.
🗓️ Lions History & All-Time Greats
Before Calvin Johnson became the franchise's receiving icon, there was Herman Moore—a forgotten great who still holds one of the most impressive Lions records ever. Herman Moore held 123 receptions in 1995, a Lions single-season receiving record before Calvin Johnson broke it with 1,964 receiving yards in 2012. Moore finished his Lions career with 9,174 receiving yards, second all-time only to Megatron. His consistency and reliability in the mid-1990s set the standard for excellence at receiver—a pedigree St. Brown is now extending into the 2020s. Did you know Moore was a Pro Bowler in five consecutive seasons (1995–1999)? He deserves more credit in franchise lore.
Top Lions Career Receiving Yards (All-Time):
- Calvin Johnson — 11,619
- Herman Moore — 9,174
- Amon-Ra St. Brown — (active, rising)
- Golden Tate — 4,741 (Lions tenure)
- Mike Ditka — 3,407

-
Guard Competition on the Left Side: There's expected to be good competition for the starting left guard spot, with Christian Mahogany favored to begin camp, though Ben Bartch and Scruggs (acquired from Houston) bring veteran experience, and Miles Frazier is being tracked as a second-year contender.
-
PUP List Progression: Watch for updates on Kerby Joseph and Brian Branch as they work back from injury during the month-long training camp process—their health will heavily influence secondary depth heading into Week 1.
