๐ Season Watch โ Trenches Rebuild (Theme A)
The offensive line overhaul is officially underway. Detroit reshaped its offensive line with Cade Mays and Juice Scruggs while relying on young players to step into larger roles. Mays, arguably Detroit GM Brad Holmes' biggest pickup of the offseason, will be flanked by Christian Mahogany at left guard and Tate Ratledge at right guard. The real question: can the new cohesion match the production that made the Lions' O-line elite in prior seasons? If the offensive line takes the kind of step forward the Lions think they can, this offense can be special considering the skill weapons they have.
๐๏ธ Lions History & All-Time Greats
Barry Sanders: Forever the King of Motor City
Today marks an apt moment to reflect on the greatest running back in Lions franchise history. When Barry Sanders retired after the 1998 season, he had amassed 15,269 yards rushing, second all-time to Chicago's Walter Payton. Sanders rushed for more than 1,000 yards in each of his 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions (1989-1998)โhe was the first running back ever to do so. Sanders was just the third person in NFL history to rush for 2,000 yards or more in a season, gaining 2,053 yards in 1997. In a game full of braggadocio and ego, he was invariably quiet and humble. The Heisman Trophy winner left the game too soon, but his legacy lives forever at Ford Fieldโand his statue will ensure generations of Lions fans remember one of football's most electrifying talents.
