🦁 Top Story
The Detroit Lions have announced their seven captains for the 2026 season: quarterback Jared Goff, wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown, and offensive tackle Penei Sewell on offense; defensive end Aidan Hutchinson, linebacker Jack Campbell, and defensive tackle Alim McNeill on defense; and punter Jack Fox on special teams. Jack Campbell is a new addition to the captain group, filling the void left by the departure of Alex Anzalone. With the regular season opener just five days away, the Lions are ready to turn the page on a disappointing 2025 campaign and make their championship push official.

📊 Season Watch: The Trenches Rebuild (Theme A)
The Lions' offensive line has undergone a significant transformation: out are longtime left tackle Taylor Decker and center Graham Glasgow, and in are former Panthers interior lineman Cade Mays and rookie offensive tackle Blake Miller, with Mays expected to fill Glasgow's vacancy at center while Miller allows All-Pro OT Penei Sewell to shift to left tackle. Mays will be flanked by Christian Mahogany at left guard and Tate Ratledge at right guard. The additions should equate to a net positive for the Lions' offensive line, which took a step back a season ago both in run-blocking and protecting veteran quarterback Jared Goff. If this rebuilt unit can establish dominance up front early, the Lions' explosive playmakers—Goff, Amon-Ra St. Brown, and Jahmyr Gibbs—will have the runway they need to power a deep playoff run.
🗓️ Lions History & All-Time Greats
Thirty-seven years ago this week: On September 8, 1989, the Detroit Lions signed running back Barry Sanders, launching one of the most electrifying careers in franchise history. Listed at just 5-foot-8, Sanders quickly took the league by storm, spinning, juking, and sliding through tacklers for 10 incredible seasons, all with the Detroit Lions, on the Pontiac Silverdome's ancient artificial turf. In 10 seasons, Sanders rushed for 15,269 yards and 99 touchdowns—both those totals were second all-time in NFL history when Sanders abruptly retired before the start of the 1999 season.
Career Rushing Yards — Franchise Top 10:
