๐ Season Watch
Theme C: Defensive Backfield Health โ Kerby Joseph, one of the team's most reliable playmakers on the back end, is currently rehabbing from a knee injury that could sideline him to start the year. One of the biggest questions surrounding the Lions' defense heading into training camp is the health of their safeties, as little has been reported about the availability of Joseph and Branch. Analysts believe Joseph could be available by the start of the regular season while the recovery from an Achilles injury could keep Branch sidelined to start the year. The Lions' secondary is undergoing a complete transformation, driven by injuries, departures and key additions that could reshape the defense early in the season. Watch for updates on both safety's participation as camp progresses.

The Legend of Barry Sanders: July 16 Reflections
Barry Sanders was born on July 16th, 1968, won the 1988 Heisman Trophy in his junior year at Oklahoma State University, and Lions head coach Wayne Fontes chose him with the third pick in the first round of the 1989 NFL draft. Just three weeks ago, Sanders would have celebrated his 58th birthdayโa perfect moment to reflect on his extraordinary Lions legacy. In his 10 seasons with the Detroit Lions (1989โ98), Sanders led the National Football League (NFL) in rushing four times and was selected every year for the Pro Bowl. In 1997, he was just the third player to rush for over 2,000 yards in a season and was named the NFL Most Valuable Player. He was one of the rare players to walk away on top of his game, retiring on the eve of training camp before the 1999 season. Sanders finished with 15,269 yards rushing, second all-time to Chicago's Walter Payton at the time of his retirement.
